  • Super nice Surf House with garden and ocean view
  • Plenty of space to soak up the sun on the balcony or in the huge pool
  • Local beach break at Foz do Lizandro within walking distance and plenty of other spots nearby
  • Amazing region for mountain biking, hiking, horse riding and of course surfing
  • Both beginners and medium surf courses available to advance quickly
  • Spend evenings in old city centre of Ericeira and check out the cafes, bars and restaurants
  • Tranquil camp with friendly atmosphere

Surf House Ericeira, mediated by Pure Surf Camps, is located in a world famous, 8km stretch of coast where there is one surf spot after the other. The nearest surf spot is the beach break at Foz do Lizandro, where beginners can catch their first waves and more advanced surfers can practice their turns.

The villa itself sits on a large piece of property which has a well maintained garden and huge swimming pool surrounded with a sun terrace. The garden also houses a garden bar where you can grab a cold drink while enjoying the sunset view and soaking up the sun after your daily surf adventure. There are also balconies where you can marvel at the sea view.

The old part of Ericeira, which started out as a fishing village, is also within walking distance. There you’ll find stunning old cobblestone alleyways enclosed in original Portuguese architecture. Not only is the city very pretty to look at, but there are also great restaurants, bars and even a couple of nightclubs to keep you occupied in the evenings. Surf House Ericeira is a dream surf destination. Surf all morning and day in great waves, then spend evenings at great restaurants in town or on the terrace around the BBQ with the other guests.

Ericeira town with city beach and harbour

Ericeira
The traditional fishing village of Ericiera is full of charm and has a friendly atmosphere. It’s a typical Portuguese village that still has original cobblestone alleyways and Portuguese architecture. The white washed walls with their brightly coloured doorways and windows add flair to the surroundings. In town, you’ll find plenty of restaurants serving local cuisine, clothing shops, as well as tourist spots to get those souvenirs for people at home. Quiksilver HQ is also located on the outskirts of the city where you have a big clubhouse, shop and giant skate park.

The coastline around Ericeira was classed a World Surfing Reserve in 2011 by the international Save the Waves Coalition. To give you an idea of how big a deal this is, as of 2017, there are 9 official surfing reserves in the world. Along the 8km stretch of coastline you will find one epic break after another that differ in size and cater to every type of surfer.

Ericeira is 30km away from Lisbon, so you can easily go for a surf in the morning, then jump in the car, shuttle, or on public transport and head there in the afternoon. Lisbon is a stunning city full of history, stunning sights and a rich culture. The capital of Portugal has an amazing, electric atmosphere and has a very San Francisco-esque vibe with the big suspension bridge, Ponte 25 de Abril, connecting the two sides of the harbour over the Tejo River. When the sun sets in Lisbon the city really comes into its own, with countless amazing restaurants and nightclubs. The new trend is to party at the nightclubs setup on the roofs of park house’s until the sun comes up.

Local Tips

The local delicacy, Pastel de Nata

Pastelerias & Restaurants
A bit of a pre-requisite is trying out some of the local restaurants and cafes in Ericeira during your stay. As Ericeira is still predominantly a fishing town, you will be greeted with the freshest seafood you are likely to find anywhere in the world. A great place to get a quick bite is at Snack Bar America, where their famous dish is the grilled fish. Another great place to eat is at Praia do Sul, in the restaurant Miradouro da Baleia. Here you can get a perfectly cooked Dorade while watching the sun set behind the Atlantic Ocean. If you want something even closer, you can walk down to Foz do Lizandro in a couple of minutes and and go to Bella Sombra where the chances of hearing some live music while you eat are very good.

If you want a recommendation for something sweet to eat that you can either get as a snack during the day, or after your meal as a dessert, the Pastel de Nata is a local delicacy that you’ll find at every bakery and most restaurants.

Trips to southern Europe, down under and Indonesia assured her that the lifestyle around surfing is the way to go. With a background in the hospitality and having worked on different surf camps, Noora knows how to make one’s holiday complete.

Erwin from Surf House Ericeira

Erwin used to live his life around snowboarding in winter and surfing in summer, but after a bad snowboard accident he had to change directions and focus only on surfing. Having worked as product manager for different (surf) tour operators, he fell in love with Portugal. The climate, food, people and waves: it’s just perfect, especially in this part of Portugal. He knows what surfers are looking for, loves to be in the water and will make sure you do the same, even if you don’t want to.

The skatepark at the Quiksilver Boardriders Club in Ericeira

For those of you that haven’t got your board sport fix out in the water. You can head to the Quiksilver Boardriders Club in Ericeira and skate the park. Its located right next to the beach has a big street section as well as a bowl and halfpipe. For all those people that don’t skate, the Quiksilver Boardriders Club is well worth a visit just to have a look around.

Explore the picturesque coastal landscape around Ericeira

As we’ve mentioned the Ericeira coast is a surfers’ paradise. But it is also extremely beautiful. The stunning coast bordered by big dramatic cliffs which then roll onto green pastures and forests are well worth exploring. You can go for a bike ride, go on a hike or horse ride. At the camp you can rent a bike, with a board rack, for 50€ a week and check the coast to find your favourite surf spots, or just explore the inland areas.

Torre de Belém in Lisbon on the north bank of the Tejos

Ericeira was founded in the 12th century and has plenty of historical sights to check out throughout the old inner city. Just 30 km away however is Lisbon, which is much older, bigger and has an extremely interesting history that revolves around the ocean and sea travel. Lisbon has everything a capital city should have, it has stunning architecture, amazing historical sights, individual culture, great bars and restaurants as well as an amazing nightlife. This is a must see while you’re in the area and will be the cherry on top of an already perfect surf trip.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra is also well worth the trip. It’s littered with fairy tale style castles and palaces that where frequented by the kings and queens of Portugal. Buildings like the Mafra Palace from the 18th century for example are one of the highlights. Its construction almost bankrupted Portugal. The town is extremely striking and really has to be seen to be believed, but its location next to the Cascais National Park makes it even more spectacular than can be described.

Flights

Lisbon (LIS)

We offer an extra service where we will find you a cheap, available flight. We’ll double-check the prices and availability and will contact you with the final offer. Cheap flights are available starting from as little as 80 Euro! Best option is to fly directly to Lisbon (LIS) and then book an airport transfer.

For those of you who would rather find and book flights yourself we recommend Skyscanner which will give you a good overview of the available flights and where they depart from. An alternative is Kayak. These two flight search sites look through all airlines apart from RyanAir

Cheap Airlines from the UK:
RyanAir and Easyjet provide cheap and easy ways to get to Lisbon, Portugal from most airports in and around all major centres in the UK.

Airport Shuttle

Surf House Ericeira offers airport pick-ups and drop-offs, to and from Lisbon Airport (LIS). The travel time to and from camp is around 30 minutes. For one passengers alone it is 30€, 2 passengers at 25€ each, and 3 or more cost 20€ per person. If you are leaving or arriving between 9pm and 9am there is a 50% surcharge.

Public Transport

In a car the trip will take around 30 minutes form the airport to the camp, whereas public transport will take around 2.5 hours. Best way once you arrive if you plan to use public transport is to leave the airport and get on the purple metro line to Lisboa Oriente.  once there you should change trains and go to Portale de Sintra. Once you have arrived here, you will need to change bus and go to Ericeira Terminal. If you are planning to get to the camp via public transport feel free to ask us and we will give you more information. If you choose to come via Public transport we will pick you up from Ericeira free of charge.

Here you can find out more about Public Transport in and around Lisbon.

Rental Car

We recommend renting a car! In Portugal there are very cheap rental cars available that start at 80€ per week. At Sunny Cars you'll find the cheapest rental cars around! Getting a rental car will allow you to spontaneously explore the coastline or nearby Lisbon. It will also give you the freedom to take early morning drives up the coast to go to your favourite surf spot and be first in the water.

Directions

Take the A8 and A21 from the airport till you get to the N116 that takes you towards Ericeira (ca. 30min). When you get to Estr. da Lapa da Serra take the EM550 till R. do Lizandro in Carvoeira (ca. 5 min) and you're at the Camp.
A toll free alternative is if you take the A37 until you can get on the N9 in Sintra. Then you are on the A16 and you'll take Exit 9 (ca. 20 min). Once you take Exit 9 you'll be on the N247 that you take till R. do Lizandro in Carvoeira (25 min).
