Unawatuna
The small beachside town of Unawatuna is located about 15 minutes away from the former capital of Sri Lanka, Galle. Galle is an old fortified harbour city which is well worth checking out while you're holidaying at Surf & Yoga Sri Lanka.

If you are looking to get away from the oasis of Surf & Yoga Sri Lanka you can easily go down to Unawatuna which is a hub of activity. There are plenty of beachside bars, restaurants that serve both local & international cuisine, markets to buy souvenirs, surf shops and even a spot to take a great cooking class.

In the area directly surrounding the camp you have 8 spectacular surf spots which means you get to surf the best waves every day. The coast provides breaks that are perfect for those of you wanting to catch your first waves, as well as those of you who have surfed your whole life.

You spend around 2.5 hours in the water, 5 days a week, with internationally certified surf instructors, which when combined will take your surfing to the next level, regardless of how good you are. The coaches know every break on the coast and can read the conditions perfectly.

Another bonus is the team take footage of you surfing to review in the evenings, meaning you can work on any problems you see the next time you hit the water.

Unawatuna Beach
The bay itself is calm and quiet but there is a point/reef break on the western end of the beach only a short paddle away. The wave can roll for up to 400 meters along the reef and its rarely crowded. Works best when the swell is around the 3-5ft.

Kabalana
This beach break south of Unawatuna is the most consistent spot in the area. Kabalana is perfect for learning with plenty of peaks up and down the beach. If you are a little more advanced you have a reef along the northern edge of the bay where you can get amazing lefts and rights over a shallow reef.

Dewatta Beach
10 minutes north of Unawatuna you have the mellow beach break of Dewatta. The waves closer to the sand are perfect to catch your first waves, and further out you have waves for more advanced surfers. Along the beach you can find both lefts and rights.

Weligama
Small fishing town with a long beach break out front that’s great for beginners. In the middle of the beach is a small island accessible on foot at low tide with a house on it. Off both sides of the island there’s little point breaks that offer long, mellow rides.

Rams Right
Right-hand reef break directly in front of Rams hotel. A little heavier and shallower so definitely better for more advanced surfers. There’s also a great restaurant on the other side of the road called Surf View.

Lazy Left
A left point break that breaks over a reef, there is also the odd right that rolls through the other side of the point. The wave suits both beginners and advanced surfers depending on the conditions. If the wind is from the north, and you have around 3-5ft of swell this is a great place to go.

Mirissa
Idyllic location with both lefts and rights breaking off either edge of the beach. The spots is great for anyone from the total beginner to the seasoned pro.

Full board included
The camps own kitchen provides amazing meals throughout your stay. The crew make sure to use the freshest local ingredients and make the food healthy, nutritious, and most importantly, delicious. The food combines local and international cuisine to create a varied menu to keep you excited for every meal. Breakfast, lunch & dinner are catered for, and if you are vegetarian or vegan, just let the team know before you arrive and they will make the necessary preparations.

A real highlight is the fact you can open & drink as many coconuts as you like while staying at the camp. And as they say, at least one coconut a day, keeps the doctor away. You can also get fresh juices and smoothies from the garden bar, as well as a cold Lion Beer. Included during your stay are 7 breakfasts, 6 dinners, and 5 lunches. Every Wednesday is a surf course free day where you usually head away from camp to explore the island. This means you will eat while exploring anyway, hence only breakfast is prepared Wednesdays.

Enjoy relaxing evenings down on the beach

Evenings and afternoons at the camp are usually spent communally soaking up the amazing surroundings, enjoying the delicious food and a cold drink, swimming in the pool, listening to Nils play the guitar, swapping stories, getting to know the other guests and crew in the outdoor lounge, and generally making the most the chilled surf camp atmosphere. There are also BBQ evenings, parties under the stars and beach bonfires which are more places to get to know your fellow surfer guests and crew during your stay.

The small groups, of only 10 guests, means by the end of your stay you get to know one another really well, and go home with some new friends from around the world.

Get pampered with a massage which is included with your stay

Flights

Colombo Airport (CMB)

We offer an extra service where we will find you the cheapest available flight, then contact you with the final offer. Flights to Colombo are the only option when travelling to Sri Lanka. When the flights are booked we can organise an airport transfer to come and meet you at the airport, and take you to Surf & Yoga Camp Sri Lanka.

For those of you who would rather find and book flights yourself we recommend Skyscanner which will give you a good overview of the available flights and where they depart from. You can fly to Colombo (CMB) with Emirates, Qatar and Etihad.

If you have any questions feel free to contact us.

Shuttle

The team from Surf & Yoga Camp Sri Lanka provide a shuttle service to pick you up from Colombo Airport for 80 € per car, per trip. Please send your flight details directly to the camp manager after booking. Contact details are on your Pure Surf Camp invoice.

You can also get a taxi once you arrive. There’s plenty of taxis at the airport, and a trip to Surf Retreat Sri Lanka should cost around 10,000 – 12,000 LKR (65 – 75€) depending on your price handling skills. It takes in between 3 – 4 hours depending on traffic.

Public Transport

By far the cheapest option is Public Transport but it’s also the option that takes the longest. Best to get a TukTuk to the bus stop by the airport. Then get on the bus to Colombo Central Train Station which is called Colombo Fort. The bus cost 150 LKR (1€) the trip can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Rental Car

Renting a car in Sri Lanka can be a great way to get around, they are very cheap and a great way to undertake your own early morning surf trips. The best priced rental cars are available at Sunny Cars. Getting a rental car will allow you to spontaneously explore the coastline on your own accord, just don't forget your roof racks. Sri Lanka is however a pretty busy place out on the roads and public transport, taxis and TukTuks are very affordable.

There are 2 options for driving, you can take the coastal toll-free road, which takes 4 hours, or the toll road which takes 2.5.
